It is a sad fact that many children in Haiti are dying due to lack of food. The few meals that the children are able to get are often deficient of nutritious essentials and nowhere near the amount needed in order to sustain good health. Many studies to date not only prove that malnutrition slows a child’s development but also makes them vulnerable to a number of illnesses.
According to the United Nations State of Food Insecurity in the World report, 820 million people in the developing world are undernourished.
Good nutrition is a building block for proper development and can:
Strengthen the immune system
Enhance cognitive and physical development
Increase concentration in school
“Food is a relationship between you and your body”
Haitian Mission Par la Foi addresses a child’s nutritional needs in many ways:
Sponsoring children in order for them to receive regular health and malnutrition screenings.
Our feeding programs treat malnourished children by providing nutritiously whole meals and vitamin supplements.
Parents are taught nutrition fundamentals and provided with meal preparation training and information about purchasing locally available inexpensive, nutritionally whole foods.
